Overview

Serial and CAN to Ethernet Conversion for Ardupilot

DroneNet is a universal protocol to ethernet networking device, which incorporates a 5 port 10/100M ethernet switch along with a CAN, USART, RS485, and GPIO/PWM.

This is designed to provide a seamless way to convert between typical Drone protocols and an ethernet network, in a single board.

At present, many of the features on DroneNet are unimplemented. Currently it only implements Serial and CAN conversion to Ethernet, allowing for telemetry networks to be expanded to ethernet using CubePilot hardware.

Firmware Option 1 (Ardupilot)

DroneNet currently ships with the Ardupilot firmware preloaded onto the board, which allows the serial port to be used to carry ethernet data. This is allows ethernet traffic on DroneNet to be connected to an autopilot's serial port.

Firmware Option 2 (BotBlox BloxOSLite)

We have released our own firmware for DroneNet that allows it to be used as a managed switch. Currently only some features have been implemented including VLAN and port status. More features will be added over time included integration of the serial, USB and CAN ports on DroneNet.

This option must be flashed by the user manually, please follow our documentation below.
